Kisii County is located to the south east of Lake Victoria. It covers an area of 1,317.4 sq km. The county has two rainfall seasons; Short (September – November) and Long (February – June) and temperatures ranging from 16 0C to 27 0C. Its local authorities are county councils of Kisii, Gusii, Gucha and Municipal Council of Kisii) Kisii Town is the administrative capital.
Kisii County is most known for its association with soap-stone, which is extensively used in the production of curios that form a large part of Kenya’s tourism trade merchandise. The county has a very high population density.
Agriculture is the main economic activity (Tea, Bananas, Maize and Coffee and dairy farming). Commercial activities also take place particularly wholesale and retail trade in agricultural products.
